In this section, we've listed some cool dog stuff/products/websites that we really like (and a few things that we really don’t). What’s on your list?
Dog Health & Nutrition
- VeterinaryPartner.com - a good veterinary resource that can help you learn more about what your vet says might be affecting your dog. NOT a substitute for consulting with your vet!
- Whole Dog Journal - a monthly magazine for every dog owner. Contains lots of informative and easy-to-read articles about dog health, training, and pet companionship.
- Wellness Rewards dog treats - one of our favorite training treats
- Zuke’s dog treats - also a favorite training treat - the perfect size!
Dog Books and/or DVDs
- Suzanne Clothier, Bones Would Rain From the Skies (Deepening our Relationships With Dogs)
- Jean Donaldson, Culture Clash
- Patricia McConnell, The Other End of the Leash
- Karen Pryor, Don’t Shoot the Dog
- Leslie Neilson, Really Reliable Recall
- Sarah Kalnajs, The Language of Dogs
Dog Toys We Like
- Kongs
- Zanies
- Ruff Dog frisbee
- Plastic bottles
- Tug toys
Dog Essentials
- Treat pouches - Gotta have somewhere to hold those treats
- Gentle Leader or Halti collars - Make walking leash pullers SOOO much easier. But not a substitute for training your dog to walk properly on-lead!
- British-style slip leads - Great for agility
Dog Shopping Places We Like
- Dogwise - THE bookstore for dog people
- Clean Run magazine - Great agility magazine and a store of lots of great stuff
- Care-a-lot - Pet supply store located on Diamond Springs Rd., Virginia Beach
- MAD agility - Good source for purchasing high-quality agility equipment
Not So Good Dog Stuff
- Shockcollars – Train with your brain, not pain!
- Retractable leashes - Not suitable for training; actually teaches your dog to pull on the leash
- Dog food with synthetic preservatives or insufficient animal protein sources
