Why P3t?

The key to having a well-behaved dog--and a happy owner--is effective leadership. Effective leadership involves establishing clear expectations, reinforcing desired behavior, and treating your dog with fairness and consistency. This creates a positive relationship between the dog and owner where each party works to keep the other happy.

Our mission is to help you develop such a relationship with your dog. We will help you better understand your dog’s behavior and needs and provide you with the knowldge and techniques to be able to get your dog to behave how you want it to. As you better understand your dog’s world and what’s important to it, you will become a more effective leader for your dog.

Our approach to dog training is to use dog-friendly training methods based on animal learning theory. These methods are fun and rewarding, easy to use and designed to create a positive relationship between you and your dog. Dog-friendly training does not mean being soft with your dog or flinging treats at them in the hope of getting the right behavior, but does involve creating and maintaining fair rules and boundaries for your dog. Our training approach is to use the least aversive methods possible and we avoid using force or compulsion methods such as alpha rolls, physical abuse, shock collars, or intimidation to make your dog comply as these techniques can not only physically hurt your dog but also damage the emotional bond you share. Use of these methods are based on our experience but also on research studies that find dog-friendly methods are more effective than compulsion-based methods and are less likely to result in canine anxiety, fear and aggression.
